You’ll be a Billionaire when you’re dead

Sunday the 19th – 25th February 2018

Hi All!

I hope you’ve all been having a great week.

This is something I’m going to be sharing with you each week, on a Sunday.

What I’m up to, on what motivates me, and things I am enjoying,
I hope you enjoy

Here’s your weekly dose of “Weekly 5.”

In case you’ve missed it

Messenger has added a really cool feature to its calls. Let’s say you’re on a call with your mother wishing her a happy birthday and you want to add more of your family to the conversation, now you can. The really cool thing about this is that it can be both with calls or with video so no matter where or what you’re at, you can have a multiple conversations with anyone whichever way you want.

They’ve also added a bonus feature where when the live conversation is finished, a chat room is created where you and the other members of the call can continue the conversation.
I for one and looking forward to trying this out.

It’s funny that last week I spoke about Snapchat and how an Influencer can be a real driving force for a platform like SnapChat and I was right.
Kylie Jenner tweeted out to her audience of 24.5 million Twitter followers on Monday,

This caused shares on Snap to nosedive 1.3 Billion in value. All this because of a redesign and because of the influence of an Influencer.
I hope that Snapchat stick to their guns and battle through this and keep their redesign because if they don’t, Kylie might as well own the company…

What I’m doing at the moment

Over the last week, I’ve really dived deep into the world of Instagram. I’ve tried to build an audience there a few times with little or no luck, never reaching above 600 followers. So this week I set out to become an Instagram pro. I started on YouTube, the best place to go learn something. I came across lots of videos all same the same things.

  • Quality Pictures or Videos
  • Post 3 – 6 times daily
  • Use targeted hashtags
  • Use Location
  • Tag users
  • Engage on your story
  • Comment on other peoples posts
  • Like peoples comments
  • DM and chat with users

All those tips can grow your account slowly but surely. Proof of that would be one of my accounts which had only 65 followers 2 days ago and now has 400.

I did pay for a post to be shared to around 2.4 million people, but it only brought in 50 – 100 people before it was deleted.
So, be wary of huge accounts charging extortionate amounts of money for a few likes and followers.

While on YouTube I learned something else. Instagram has Engagement groups where when you join you can share your post to get engagement every day to grow your following. Basically, when you post, some of your followers see it or if you use hashtags more people see it that way. With a growth group when there’s engagement right away from people that have many followers it gives your post the ability to be seen by thousands if not millions of people.

I found out to get into an Engagement Group, you have to have around 5,000 followers to make it worthwhile for others to get you liking or commenting on their post. After learning this it got me thinking, why not grow my own engagement group. So, that’s what I set out to do. I set up a private group on Telegram to share information, tips and tricks on Instagram, a community chat room and a shoutout room where people can like and comment on other profiles.

Most of the people that I’ve invited have around 500 followers, so that if you have 10 people like and comment on a post-it then has the potential to be seen by 5,000 people.

If you’d like to join us on my Instagram Engagement Group on Telegram your more than welcome.

One of the top or most interesting posts of the week

I really enjoyed one of this week’s posts by a long-serving member Rick Nielsen. He spoke of a direct response ad he and his brother received when they were younger.

“Another great example of old school targeted direct response advertising. My little brother took his own money and ordered these little army dudes. I remember how excited we were waiting for this treasure to show up in the mail. When it arrived, it was better than Christmas!!”

It is very interesting to see copy & ad styles from different years. As marketers, we learn from what works and what doesn’t, reuse and model what does. As Rick already told us, this ad copy worked on him and his brother when they were kids, so this is in my view is proof of work that this is a good ad.

There’s something that really annoys me about this comment…⬇

“Coca Cola’s first year they grossed $50.00
Today they sell more than one billion bottles per day!”

So guys, if you keep at it,

You’ll be a billionaire when you’re Dead…
💀 😂

Seriously though, even if you’ve made .10c keep at it. If you keep doing what you’re doing something’s gotta give! Just be sure to keep learning through the process… – Daniel Mac Sweeney

Interesting post, I am also looking to go into Instagram in a big way, right now I have about 2000 followers but I am keen to push that to like 50,000 followers. I know a huge part of my problem is consistency, lately, I have not been posting at all, bu that is all going to change.

What were your favourite people who were teaching about Instagram?
