How to build an Online Business Empire

You have come to the decision that you want to start an online business.

Today we are going to learn about how to figure out what kind of business you want to do online. There are hundreds and thousands of business ideas out there that you could get into, but don’t let that put you off. If you have something unique to share you’ll be ok. Most of the top bloggers and sellers have all started off just like you, from $0.

How to become a Millionaire overnight

You’re browsing through the internet one day and all of a sudden you see a blog post about some 12-year-old kid that becomes a Millionaire overnight. These stories come up every once in a while, explaining, about how these people became overnight successes, by creating some wonderful app, an amazing website, an e-book or physical product.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but these people did not become successes or millionaires overnight. It took them time and a lot of work to reach where they are.

One of these people who worked hard to create his online success is the one and only, Mark Zuckerberg. Mark and his college roommates and fellow Harvard University students Eduardo Saverin, Andrew McCollum, Dustin Moskovitz, and Chris Hughes, launched Facebook from Harvard’s dormitory rooms. The group then introduced Facebook to other campuses and Facebook expanded rapidly, boasting one billion users by 2012. By the way, It wasn’t until September 2009 that Facebook started making a profit.

For most people, they find these kinds of posts by accident, or they were purposely looking for them as they were looking for “How to Make Money Online”. Posts like these spark people’s interest and wake them up from living a life of working like a slave until they die, to a life of trying to succeed.

To me, it feels like a lot of the people around me just live day by day. They work a job that’s 9 to 5, then go home in the evenings, maybe sit around and watch tv, get the weekend off to do some hobbies and repeat again the week after. Instead of a job that they own, plan around and get paid even when they are not working. That’s the kind of life that I want for myself, so I can, with my family fly around the world and visit amazing places and never worry about a bill or purchase ever again. It is also what I want for you.

They live a boring life!!!

So boring, but most of us do it every week, every year not realizing that instead of working extremely hard to move up the ladder in the corporate world, that we can do it ourselves online. Most people won’t start changing their mindset until they see an online story of someone becoming very successful like my good friends Mikkel Thorup of The Expat Money Show Podcast and Rick Nielsen of TheWebTrainer.com

I am not just talking about people making money online and getting rich but also the people that succeed and go on to do something that is totally unbelievable for themselves and others, so they can live a rich and fulfilled life.

An example of a person like this is the creator of the World Wide Web, Tim Berners-Lee. A man who along with a co-founder Robert Kahn released the Internet as we know it to the world FREE of charge.

Begin building a better you

To start building a better you is to learn as much as you can about the business that you decide to get into. That would be one of the best paths to building a better lifestyle so that you can live the life that you should be living. So you can enjoy life, have fun, spend more time with your family and be carefree of money issues and stress.

What was my spark moment

Years ago when I was young, before iPhones and Facebook was still in its infancy, an Internet cafe opened up in my town. It was the early 2000s, and we had no internet in our house so this is where I used to learn about the internet, play online games and watch YouTube. That was the first time I read about someone making money online.

The story I found was about a young teenage boy in England who developed a website selling ad space. He had a million pixel image spaces on his website which he sold for $1 each. Read the story here MillionDollarHomepage.com.

I was amazed by this and wanted to do the same, but I didn’t know where to start and knew nothing about WordPress, Wix or Squarespace. I only heard about HTML and I had no clue how to build a website. Eventually, I did learn a bit from a book or two but not enough to build a website, and as I had no internet at home I had to give up and focus on working and living my life.

I look back now and think to myself, “If I only knew then, what I know now“!

Some years later I discovered another post online that would kick-start my journey. “How to Build an App Empire” which was the story about the guy who created emojis, written by Tim Ferriss.

Like I said before reading a story like this woke me up and kick-started something in my brain. I read Tims book “The Four Hour Work Week” right away and tried and tested a few things, which I hadn’t a clue what I was doing, so I went in head first and in a way hurt myself by burning a hole in my wallet. Don’t get me wrong, this book did not make me waste my money but made me learn to become a better me.

I would recommend everyone (And I do) to read this book, Tim Ferriss is one amazing guy. He also has his own podcast on iTunes.

I ended up building an App which cost me over $6,000, it never took off unfortunately but I was the best experience I’ve ever had because I learned so much about developing an App, Websites, and Domains, then I moved on to Onesies where I build my own Website selling Onesies I ordered from China to sell. I did make a few sales, and it was getting popular but my supplier went bust and I was too busy to search for a new one so I was left with over 100 Onesies and another bill of $1,000. I learned more about buying and selling a product with that business. Great news about it though, It will be re-launched in the winter of 2016. After that, I tried a few more things which thought me loads about starting an online business and becoming successful. Richard Branson failed 15 times before he became the billionaire he is today.

That what this post is about, to come up with an Idea for your business online.

What kind of online business should I start?

First I will not say enough, learn, learn, learn; as much as you can. Read everything and take your time. Like I said, you won’t become rich overnight, It takes time, work and failure by trial and error.

I walked around for days at the start, trying to figure out what could I do. It was confusing and it made things more difficult for me as it would for you because, you could come up with a fantastic Idea, but by the time you begin to write it down, it can be all messed up and a bit all over the place.

How to determine what business you should start

There are a few ways to come up with Ideas for a business. You I’m assuming have no clue what so ever what you can do.

Here is an exercise to get you to figure out what your million dollar business Idea is.

Idea Mindmap

Get a sheet of paper and write in the middle of the page in a bubble “Hobbies”.
Then you need to draw 6 lines coming from the center and at the end of each line write your 6 of your favorite hobbies.

It could be
Running, Cycling, Domaining, Drawing, WordPress, Games

Now beside each of the hobbies that you wrote down, draw another line from each of the hobbies and then write down five to ten things you know about each of them.

Don’t worry if you can’t come up with ten things about your hobbies because that will fizzle out the businesses that you won’t be getting into.

Share yours in the comments below 🙂

What should you do? Website or Product?

Ok, let’s say you have written down ten things that you know about running.
That would be a potential business that you could get into? Also, believe it or not, you might have just written down potential headers for your website or products to sell if you are going down that route.

Now that you have your Idea, it’s time to figure out what to do next.

Do you need to build a Website or create a Product?

Get another piece of paper and write your Hobby in the center of the page, branching out from that write, Website, and Product.

Here, what you need to do is to figure out what type of business you’re getting into. Write five ideas from the website and also five ideas for a product that you could do.

For example, from a website, you could write Blog, Video, Magazine, Forum, and Course. Under product you could have, Shoes, Belt, Clothes, Tech, and Gear.

Please share your Mindmap of Website or Product in the comments below 🙂

From this, you can see which is more viable to do, and which one you could do easier. Building a website is very different than selling a product. You will have to figure out which one you’re going to get into.

To sell a product, you will be going to Amazon to sell and building a website you will be selling your talent, advice, and information.

You are probably thinking “What if I want both“, a product and a website to sell the product on, “I’d say, don’t worry about that yet, focus on one or the other, because you don’t need a website to sell a product, but you do need a website to sell yourself, by means of a blog or some sort of online course.

The next part of your idea plan is to decide what you want to do.

Once you have decided, you will now be on the right path to becoming a successful entrepreneur online. A bit of advice, just don’t give up, it takes months to create a passive income online, unless you’re a genius and know something we all don’t know.

What next?

In the next part comes the work. The hard work, you need to learn everything you can about the business you are getting into. Buy some books and magazines about the industry and read. If there are no books, try ebooks, Wikipedia and Google. If you decide to sell a product, search Amazon.com, AliExpress.com, and Alibaba.com to see what kind of product you could sell and what it is selling for.

I think that is a lot of information to take in on one read, so take a break from the computer and get out your sheets of paper, write down your ten hobbies and ten things you know about that hobby and figure out, what it is what you want to do with your online business.

Whichever option you choose, best of luck.
If you need to ask a question, I’m here to help and I will answer any question in the comments below if I can.
